Taramati Gana Mandir and the Premamathi Nritya Mandir are locations where two sisters Taramati and Premamathi used to reside at one point of time. Both the sisters used to perform on top of a circular dais at two separate pavilions. These two pavilions were further located a few km away from each other. However there are legends behind these two monuments that makes them more interesting. According to beliefs both Taramati and Premamathi were the two favourite courtesans of Abdullah Qutub Shah. Abdullah Qutub Shah was the 7th Sultan of Golconda and was a prominent ruler.  According to tales the dancers used to perform on a rope often tied from their places to the Sultan’s balcony. Even the sultan’s grandfather, the founder of Hyderabad, also had his favourite courtesan Bhagmati. And just like him Taramati was the favourite dancer of Sultan Abdullah Qutub Shah.

Because of his favoritism he built this astonishingly fine structure with acoustics so that her voice can reach him at the Golconda Fort. The Golconda Fort is located at a distance of 3 km from this location. The acoustics of the Taramati Baradari is definitely one of the major attractions here. It is of such high standard that people even compare it with the one that is located in Bala Hisar in Afghanistan. The structure has great acoustics and it was all done for Taramati.
